About the Care Bears™

The Care Bears are a set of characters created by American Greetings in 1981 for use on greeting cards. In 1983 the toy company Kenner took the characters and made the first in a line of very successful stuffed teddy bears based on the Care Bears characters. Each Care Bear comes in a different color and with a specialized insignia on its belly: for example, "Bedtime Bear" is pastel blue and sports a sleepy-looking crescent moon symbolizing bedtime. "Cheer Bear" is pink with a rainbow insignia. The Care Bears appeared in their own television series 1985 to 1988, in addition to three feature films. Today, Care Bears are still being marketed and as a retro property is extremely hot in retail. As part of this comeback, the Bears have appeared in their first three CGI movies, Journey to Joke-a-lot (2004), the Big Wish Movie (2005) and Care Bears-To the Rescue (2010)

The most recent televised series “Care Bears Adventures in Care-a-Lot” reached millions of viewers on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. The series led to an interactive website, AGKidZone, sponsored by American Greetings featuring the Care Bears in “Care-a-Lot” with games, videos, and activities.

In late 2009, American Greetings announced that the Care Bears will be re-imagined with the launch of a new series, "Care Power Team". In 2011, the card company announced that a new television series, the franchise's first in CGI, is in development and will premiere in 2012.
